Running the Tournament
Once you have confirmed players, created rounds, and invited umpires, you are ready to start.
Starting the Tournament
- In the Overview tab, click Start Tournament
- Confirm the transition (Registration → In Progress)
This is a one-way action. Once the tournament is in progress, players can no longer request to join, scoring becomes active, and the tournament appears as "Live" in the public listings.
You can still create new rounds and generate matches while the tournament is in progress.
How Scoring Works
Recourt offers two ways for umpires to score matches:
Option A — QR Code / Token (No Login Required)
Each court and each match has a unique QR code. Anyone who scans it can score without a Recourt account.
To share a QR code:
- Go to the Umpires or Matches tab
- Click the QR icon next to a court or match
- The umpire scans the code with their phone
What the umpire sees:
- A name-entry prompt on the first visit (stored locally on the device, not saved to the server)
- The current match score with +1 Home and +1 Away buttons
- For the final point that would end the match: an "End Match?" confirmation dialog showing the winning team and final score
Scoring a Scheduled match automatically transitions it to In Progress.
Option B — Authenticated Umpire Login
Umpires who have a Recourt account and are confirmed for the tournament can log in and score from their Judging → My Matches section. They see all matches assigned to them and can tap a match to open the full scoring board with live updates.
Choosing Who Serves First
On tennis and padel matches, the scoring board has a First serve control with a 🎾 button for each side. Tap the side that serves first — a tennis-ball indicator then shows whose serve it is, and the choice persists across page refreshes. Use the Change link to switch it. (Americano/Mexicano point-counting matches don't track serve, so the control doesn't appear.)
Undoing a Point
Both scoring methods support Undo — it reverts the last point scored. There is no limit on undos as long as the match is in progress.
Live Standings
Standings update automatically as matches complete. Players and spectators can view the live leaderboard from the public tournament page. The leaderboard shows these columns:
| Col | Name | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| M | Matches Played | Completed matches the player or team appeared in |
| W | Wins | Matches won |
| L | Losses | Matches lost (M − W) |
| WP | Win Points | Total points/games scored by the player across all matches |
| LP | Loss Points | Total points/games conceded to opponents across all matches — not zero when winning |
| Ratio | Efficiency | WP / (WP + LP). Proportion of all rally points the player won. Displayed to 2 decimal places |
| Pts | Points (Net) | WP − LP. Positive means the player scored more than they conceded |
Example
Player Alex completes 3 matches in an Americano tournament:
| Match | Result | Alex | Opponent |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Win | 15 | 9 |
| 2 | Loss | 10 | 14 |
| 3 | Win | 18 | 12 |
The leaderboard row for Alex:
| M | W | L | WP | LP | Ratio | Pts |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3 | 2 | 1 | 43 | 35 | 0.55 | +8 |
- WP = 15 + 10 + 18 = 43 (Alex's points)
- LP = 9 + 14 + 12 = 35 (opponent points — Alex still concedes points even when winning)
- Pts = 43 − 35 = +8 (net score)
- Ratio = 43 / 78 = 0.55 (Alex scored 55% of all rally points)
Tiebreak Order
When players are tied, the leaderboard sorts by:
- Wins (most wins first)
- Pts (highest net points as first tiebreaker)
- Ratio (highest efficiency as second tiebreaker)
Big Screen View
Display real-time scores on a projector or TV via the Screens tab in your tournament admin panel.
Setting Up Screens
- Go to the Screens tab of your tournament admin panel
- Click New Screen and give it a name (e.g. "Main Hall", "Court TV")
- Toggle which blocks appear on that screen: Courts, Matches, Draws
- Click Copy URL — open that URL on the target TV (no login required)
You can create multiple screens with different layouts — for example one showing only the Courts matrix for a lobby TV, and another showing the Draws bracket for a finals screen. The gear icon on the screen page lets you adjust the layout directly from the TV.
A Big Screen button on the Overview tab opens the default screen URL in a new tab. A separate Photo Wall button opens the photo wall view (/tournaments/[id]/screen/wall), which shows match court photos in a live mosaic.
Adding More Rounds Mid-Tournament
You can create and generate additional rounds at any time while the tournament is in progress. Matches from earlier rounds do not need to be completed first.
