Umpire Management
Umpires score matches during the tournament. They can be registered Recourt users (who log in to score) or guest umpires (who score via QR code without an account).
Inviting a Umpire
- Open your tournament admin panel and go to the Umpires tab
- Click Invite Umpire
- Enter the person's email address
- The umpire receives an invitation on their Invitations page
When they accept:
- Their status moves to Accepted
- The Umpire role is automatically added to their Recourt account
- If Auto-Confirm Umpires is enabled, they move straight to Confirmed
- If not, you manually click Confirm to activate them
Only Confirmed umpires can score matches while the tournament is in progress.
Assigning Umpires
After confirming a umpire, assign them to where they will score:
- Court assignment — the umpire scores all matches played on a specific court. Useful for dedicated court officials.
- Match assignment — the umpire scores one specific match only.
You can also leave umpires unassigned and rely purely on QR/token scoring (see Running the Tournament).
Guest Umpires (No Account Required)
For walk-in referees or situations where someone does not have a Recourt account:
- In the Umpires tab, click Add Guest Umpire
- Enter the person's name
- A QR code is generated for them immediately
The guest umpire scans the QR code, enters their name when prompted, and can score right away — no login required.
Umpire Status Reference

|---|---|
| Invited | Invitation sent, not yet accepted |
| Accepted | Accepted the invitation, pending admin confirmation |
| Confirmed | Active — can score assigned matches |

Auto-Confirm Umpires Setting
Found in your tournament settings (Edit page):
- On (default) — umpires skip the Accepted step and go straight to Confirmed on acceptance
- Off — you review and manually confirm each umpire
Key Rules
- A umpire cannot be a confirmed participant (player) in the same tournament
- Umpires can hold both the player role and umpire role on the platform, just not in the same event
- The umpire role on their account persists after the tournament ends (it is a platform-level role)
