Worked Example: Pools + Knockout — 8-Team World Cup Style

Step 1: Create the Tournament

1. Dashboard → New Tournament
2. Select Pools + Knockout tournament type
3. Name: “Club Open Championship”, Sport: Padel
4. Schedule: Saturday, 4 courts, 9:00–17:00

Step 2: Register Teams

1. Open registration — 8 fixed doubles teams sign up:

Step 3: Create the Draw

1. Go to the Draws tab → New Draw
2. Select Pool + Knockout
3. Configure:
   • Name: “Open Division”
   • Format: Doubles, Fixed teams
   • Advance per pool: 2
   • Third-place match: Enabled
   • Pool scoring: Americano 21 pts (round-robin within pool)
   • Knockout scoring: Padel (best-of-3 sets, 6 games, tiebreak)

Step 4: Create Pools & Assign Teams

1. Click Add pool twice to create Pool A and Pool B
2. For each pool, click Assign teams and pick 4 teams:

Step 5: Create the Pool Round & Generate Matches

1. Click Add pool round — name it “Pool Stage”
2. Select the pool round from the dropdown
3. Each pool plays round-robin: 4 teams → 6 matches per pool = 12 matches total
4. The system generates all pool matches — assign courts/times in the Matches tab

Step 6: Set Up the Knockout Bracket

1. In the Bracket section, click Set up knockout bracket
2. A preview modal shows the first-round pairings:
   • Pool A #1 vs Pool B #2
   • Pool B #1 vs Pool A #2
3. Click Create bracket — the system builds SF → Final → Bronze match
4. Match shells show placeholders (e.g. “Pool A #1”) — you can now assign courts/times

Step 7: Start Tournament & Score Pool Matches

1. Click Start Tournament to move to In Progress
2. Score all 12 pool matches
3. Final pool standings:

Step 8: Seed from Pools

1. In the Bracket section, click Seed from pools
2. Preview shows the actual team names filling the bracket:
   • Semifinal 1: Alpha Aces (#A1) vs Epsilon Edge (#B2)
   • Semifinal 2: Theta Thunder (#B1) vs Gamma Gliders (#A2)
3. Click Seed players — names fill in, court/times preserved

Step 9: Score Knockout Matches

Score the semifinals:

• SF1: Alpha Aces def. Epsilon Edge 2–0 (6-3, 6-4)
• SF2: Theta Thunder def. Gamma Gliders 2–1 (4-6, 6-3, 6-2)

Winners auto-propagate to the next round:

• Final: Alpha Aces vs Theta Thunder
• Bronze: Epsilon Edge vs Gamma Gliders (auto-filled from SF losers)

Step 10: Complete

Score the final matches. Alpha Aces wins gold, Theta Thunder silver, Gamma Gliders bronze. Click Complete Tournament to lock the results.
