Worked Example: Mexicano — Multi-Round Standings-Based

Scenario

A club runs a 3-round competitive padel event for 8 players on 2 courts. Round 1 uses random Americano pairings. Rounds 2 and 3 use Mexicano format, which seeds pairings by current standings — the top-ranked player pairs with #2 and faces #3 paired with #4 on Court 1. Standings accumulate across all rounds.

Step 1: Tournament Setup

  1. Create a tournament with type Americano (Mexicano rounds are created within)
  2. Name: “Club Championship Series”
  3. Sport: Padel, Courts: 2, Match duration: 24 min
  4. Open registration and confirm 8 players: Alex, Bella, Carlos, Diana, Erik, Fatima, George, Hana

Step 2: Round 1 — Americano (Random)

  1. Create Round 1: Americano, 24 pts, random partners
  2. 8 players on 2 courts → 3 rotations
  3. Score all matches and complete the round

Standings after Round 1:

Step 3: Round 2 — Mexicano (Seeded)

  1. Create Round 2: Mexicano, 24 pts
  2. The system seeds by standings — no manual pairing needed
  3. Court assignments follow the Mexicano order:
    • Court 1: Alex (#1) & Fatima (#2) vs Carlos (#3) & Bella (#4)
    • Court 2: Diana (#5) & Erik (#6) vs George (#7) & Hana (#8)
  4. Score matches — standings update live, accumulating Round 1 + Round 2 points

Step 4: Round 3 — Mexicano Again

  1. Create Round 3: Mexicano, 24 pts
  2. System re-computes standings from Rounds 1+2 and seeds again
  3. New pairings reflect the latest rankings — players chasing the lead get matched against stronger opponents
  4. Score final round

Step 5: Final Standings

After all 3 rounds, the leaderboard shows accumulated points across every match played:

#PlayerTotal PointsWins
1Alex1928
2Carlos1787
3Fatima1756
4Bella1686
…

Standings mode can be set to Points, Wins, or Both. In “Both” mode, wins are the primary sort column.
